NYC DOT Launches Third Weekend Pothole Blitz, Surpasses 80,000 Repairs Citywide

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) announced it will carry out a third consecutive weekend “Pothole Blitz” on Saturday, March 28, as crews continue addressing road damage caused by a harsh winter.

According to the agency, more than 8,000 potholes were repaired during last weekend’s effort alone—roughly equivalent to a full week’s workload in a single day. Since the start of the year, NYC DOT crews have filled over 80,000 potholes across the five boroughs, including more than 15,000 during the first two blitz weekends.

Officials say the initiative comes in response to heavy snowfall and prolonged cold temperatures, which contributed to increased roadway damage. In addition to pothole repairs, the department plans to pave more than 1,150 lane miles citywide this year.

Residents are encouraged to report potholes through 311 or the city’s online portal as peak pothole season continues during the spring months.
