In a rare and powerful show of unity, local leaders and organizations have come together in strong opposition to the proposed government takeover of Maimonides Medical Center.

Representing tens of thousands of residents, Hatzolah expressed deep appreciation to NYS Senator Sam Sutton, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, Assemblyman Kalman Yeger, and NYC Council Member Simcha Felder, along with numerous elected officials across multiple districts. Their unified stance, joined by prominent attorneys and askonim, marks what many are calling an unprecedented moment of coordination and clarity on an issue affecting the heart of the community.

Organizations including Flatbush Hatzolah, Boro Park Hatzolah, Canarsie/Mill Basin Hatzolah, the Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition, and the Boro Park Jewish Community Council emphasized that this level of cooperation across different groups and levels of government is something rarely seen.

At the center of the concern is the future of Maimonides Medical Center, long known for its high standard of care. Community leaders warned that shifting to a municipal model could put that standard at risk, stressing that healthcare decisions must be guided by patient care, not financial pressure.

“There is no price tag on a heartbeat,” the statement expressed, capturing the urgency felt across the community.

The coalition also pointed to recent action by the New York State Attorney General’s Office, which declined to approve the proposed nonprofit transaction and referred the matter to the courts, signaling the need for further review, transparency, and public input.

Across the board, the message remains clear and united: any proposal must be judged by one standard alone - whether it preserves or improves care.
