You may have noticed stacks of purple plastic pipe along Bennetts Mills Road.
Mayor Kuhn: This pipe is for a Jackson Township Municipal Utilities Authority (JTMUA) project to carry raw (untreated) well water from Bennetts Mills Road to the JTMUA treatment plant on London Drive.
Phase 1 of the project will install the main from the vicinity of #254 Bennetts Mills Road to Georgian Boulevard. This work is being done before Ocean County repaves Bennetts Mills Road (Route 527 to Cooks Bridge Road), planned for later in 2026. A future Phase 2 will extend the main along Georgian Boulevard and connect it to the treatment plant on London Drive; JTMUA has not yet set a schedule for that phase.
Phase 1 is scheduled to start around April 6, 2026, and should take about 40 calendar days. Most work will occur on weekdays during normal business hours. Alternating traffic will be maintained while work is underway. Near the intersection of Butterfly Road / Frank Applegate Road, nighttime work may occur to permit a more substantial closure of the roadway to avoid utility conflicts.
