DeSantis Signs Bill to Rename Major Florida Airport After Trump
Ron DeSantis has officially signed legislation to rename Palm Beach International Airport after Donald Trump, marking a symbolic and rare rebranding of a major U.S. airport in recent years.
Under the new law, the airport will be renamed “President Donald J. Trump International Airport”, pending final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The change is expected to take effect later this year, with July 1 being the target date for implementation.
The airport, located just minutes from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, has long served as his primary travel hub, especially since he relocated to Florida in 2019.
The rebranding won’t happen overnight. Before the name becomes official, the FAA must approve updates across aviation systems, maps, and flight databases. Physical changes, like signage, branding, and airport materials, are also expected to cost millions, with estimates reaching as high as $5.5 million. These are funds that were already approved.

The name change will result in changing the airport’s three-letter code from PBI to DJT, matching Trump’s initials. That proposal is also still under review.
The move honors Trump as a Florida resident and former and current president, placing him among a select group of U.S. leaders with airports named after them. When finalized, this would make it the first major airport named after a president while in office and one of the few named after a president at all.
