Shooting Outside Israeli Consulate in Istanbul Leaves Gunmen Dead, Police Wounded as Attack Foiled

Apr 7, 2026·1 min read

Gunfire erupted outside the Israeli consulate in Istanbul in what appears to have been a coordinated attack targeting the diplomatic site.

According to initial reports, three armed attackers opened fire near a police position outside the building. Turkish security forces responded quickly, neutralizing all three gunmen—two were killed and a third was left severely wounded.

Two Turkish police officers were injured in the exchange, authorities say. There are currently no confirmed reports of injuries among consulate staff.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the incident, stating that the consulate was not staffed at the time and that the reports are under investigation.

Early assessments describe the attackers as trained and operating in a manner resembling ISIS-style tactics, though no official attribution has been made.

Turkish authorities have yet to release a detailed formal statement. The situation remains ongoing, with further updates expected.
