Jackson Police Launch Traffic Enforcement Initiative

Apr 10, 2026·2 min read

Jackson Township Police have announced a new round of traffic enforcement that will be taking place over the coming months, with a focus on reducing accidents and improving driver safety on local roads.

According to the department, enhanced enforcement details will run from April through September as part of a state-funded initiative through the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety. The grant, known locally as the Crash Abatement and Tactics (C.A.T.) program, is aimed at targeting the primary causes of serious and fatal crashes.

The stepped-up enforcement follows a significant number of crashes recorded in Jackson over the past year. In 2025 alone, the township saw 1,629 motor vehicle crashes. Of those, 29 resulted in serious bodily injury, including 11 that were fatal.

Officials say the increase in traffic volume throughout Jackson has made both enforcement and driver education a continued priority. As part of the initiative, officers will be assigned to areas throughout the township that are known for higher crash activity.

Police say drivers can expect a visible presence and should be mindful of common violations that often lead to accidents. These include speeding, running red lights, distracted driving, failure to wear seatbelts, right-of-way violations, and driving while impaired. Officers will be taking enforcement action when necessary, while also working to educate drivers on safer habits behind the wheel.

The department emphasized that the overall goal of the initiative is not just enforcement, but reducing serious injuries and fatalities on local roadways.
