WILD BRAWL: Late-Night Fight Erupts in Gunfire, Multiple Injured
A wild brawl broke out at the Pedestrian Mall in Iowa City, a block away from the University of Iowa, starting with fisticuffs and ending with gunfire that sent the crowd scattering and fleeing for their lives. Police responding to a call at 1:45 a.m. found that several people had sustained injuries.
According to an official statement, “At this time, multiple victims have been taken to area hospitals to be treated for wounds suffered in the shooting.” So far, five people have been verified to have sustained injuries, three of them university students, and one of them with critical injuries.
Police said that they were responding to a call about a fight when they heard the gunfire.

University President Barbara Wilson issued a statement offering support and sympathy to the student community and the injured students.
“While we await additional information, I am thinking about these students and their families, friends, and all the people who care about them. I am holding them close in my thoughts, along with everyone in our community who is hurting or feeling shaken right now,” she said.
This is the second mass shooting Sunday. In Louisiana, a domestic dispute ended with eight children dead.
