It may no longer be safe for Israelis to travel to Moscow, as an incident Monday at Domodedovo Airport shows.
Mediazona, a Russian opposition news outlet, reported that dozens of Israelis were detained and held for five hours without access to food, water and restrooms. Authorities questioned them about the war with Iran and demanded access to their mobile phones.
A recently passed law grants Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) the authority to search mobile phones — even the phones of foreign nationals.

During questioning, the detainees, some of whom carried Russian passports, were told that Iran is Russia’s ally, and that they were “not welcome” because “its enemy is our enemy as well,” according to the report.
Mediazona also reported that Russian authorities required the detainees to sign documents containing a warning about participating in missions against Iran before they were released.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry worked with Russian authorities to resolve the incident, which it called “unacceptable.”
So if you’re an Israeli who had been planning to visit Russia in the near future, it might be a good idea to put your travel on hold.
