Milei Makes Historic Visit to Famous Chevron Yeshiva and Receives Royal Treatment

Apr 20, 2026·2 min read

Argentinian President Javier Milei made an unannounced visit to Yeshivas Chevron (Knesses Yisroel) in Givat Mordechai, Yerushalayim, drawing excitement, attention, and…. some controversy.

Milei, who has become known for his strong support of Israel and admiration for Torah values, was received with great respect by the roshei yeshiva, including R’ Dovid Cohen, and hundreds of bochurim, who stood in honor as he entered the beis medrash.

During the visit, Rosh Yeshiva HaRav Yosef Chevroni addressed the president warmly, emphasizing the unique stature of Torah institutions, describing the yeshiva as part of a chain of learning stretching back thousands of years. Milei himself spoke briefly, expressing his deep connection to the Jewish people and to Torah learning, his remarks that were met with applause from the bochurim.

But alongside the excitement, the visit drew some criticism in parts of the Torah world. It starts with the timing: the visit took place in the middle of seder, during the very beginning of the zman, when the Beis Medrash is normally filled with the sound of uninterrupted learning. They suggested that the visit could have been held in a less disruptive setting, such as a dining hall or at a different time, allowing both respect for the guest and preservation of the yeshiva’s learning schedule. Still, the majority are supporters of the visit, and they pushed back, noting the importance of a world leader publicly honoring Torah and Torah learners, especially one who has shown consistent support for Israel.
