Hezbollah Drone Strike Kills 19-Year-Old IDF Soldier, Wounds Six in Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

Apr 26, 2026·1 min read

An Israeli soldier was killed and six others were wounded Monday morning in a Hezbollah explosive drone attack on IDF forces operating in southern Lebanon.

The fallen soldier was named as Sgt. Idan Fooks, 19, from Petah Tikvah, a fighter in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade. His death marks the third Israeli soldier killed in southern Lebanon despite the ongoing ceasefire.

According to the IDF, one officer and three soldiers were seriously wounded in the attack. Another soldier was moderately wounded, and one more was lightly hurt.

As the wounded troops were being evacuated, Hezbollah launched two additional explosive-laden drones toward the forces. One was intercepted, while the second exploded near the soldiers, but caused no further injuries, according to the military’s initial probe.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the strike, saying it targeted Israeli troops in the southern Lebanese town of Taybeh in response to what it called Israeli violations of the ceasefire. Srugim also reported that Petah Tikvah officials confirmed Fooks’s death and said the city is assisting the family.
