Tragedy struck the Boro Park community on Monday morning as the horrific news arrived of the petirah of R’ Nachum Yisrael Eber, Hy”d, 51, a respected member of the Belzer kehillah. R’ Nachum was the victim of a brutal murder reportedly at the hands of a violent gang while traveling in Colombia.

R’ Nachum had traveled to the South American country several days prior. Concern mounted when all contact with him was lost, prompting his anguished family to reach out to askanim and local authorities for assistance. Following an intensive search, his body was discovered in a remote, isolated area, bearing signs of severe violence.

According to initial reports from Colombian authorities, R’ Nachum, Hy”d, was ambushed by a local criminal gang. The attackers, apparently seeking to rob him, killed him before fleeing the scene.
