Lebanese Girl Arrested After Tip to IDF on Alleged Hezbollah Weapons at School

Apr 28, 2026·3 min read

A 13-year-old girl who contacted Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arab-language spokesperson, to tell him that Hezbollah weapons were stored at her school, has been arrested along with her father by Lebanese authorities.

Her online post read, “Listen brother, I want to give you very important information. In Choueifat National College school, there are Hezbollah weapons, a rocket launcher room, and shelters underground with weapons. I wanted to give you this information, the rest is up to you.”

The IDF investigated the school, Choueifat National College in Choueifat near Beirut, and found nothing suspicious.

The girl’s action infuriated the school administration and Lebanese authorities. Another student allegedly informed the school administration, which issued a warning:

“Any student found to be involved in defaming the school through any action or statement that violates the law and regulations, including on social media, will be subject to legal responsibility and prosecution, in addition to disciplinary measures,” the school said in a statement.

Lebanese media also took the child to task.

“A childish act aimed at avoiding an exam was taken seriously by the enemy, which added the school to its target bank and may attack it, claiming it is targeting weapons depots,” one report alleged, adding that Adraee “took the joke seriously” and sent security to conduct an inspection via drone.

If the kid was trying to get school canceled, that is certainly a new and creative, if ineffective, way to do it.

The IDF has denied any links between local drone flights and the girl’s report to the IDF, saying such flights in the area are routine and linked to Hezbollah’s presence there.

Meanwhile, Adraee addressed the story on X, saying that the girl’s post suggests prevailing attitudes in Lebanon, not least of which is that the IDF and Adraee himself are seen as the solution to every problem, no matter the size. It also shows that, even if the post was meant as a joke, it shows that the public knows that Hezbollah stores weaponry in schools. He also pleaded for clemency for the young student.

“But most important, my message to the school administration is this — I am speaking to you as a human being, regardless of differences: Do not look for the boy or girl who wrote this just to punish them,” Adraee wrote. “Let your conversation with the student be based on empathy, not punishment. Someone may harass her and put pressure on her. Teach students to tell the truth. To young people and children, I say: Tell the truth and be bold in expressing it, but inform your families and the relevant authorities about any danger or anything that troubles you, or about Hezbollah’s offenses against you, your future and your lives.”

The kid just didn’t want to go to school. But the IDF, as all-powerful as it may appear to Lebanese children, can’t solve that problem.
