Jackson Mayor Unveils 2026 Budget With No Municipal Tax Increase, Expanded Services
At a time when municipalities across the region are confronting rising costs and increasing financial pressures, Jennifer Kuhn has introduced a 2026 municipal budget proposal that includes no increase in municipal taxes while also expanding key public services.
The proposal comes despite several significant financial challenges facing the township, including rising healthcare expenses, binding contractual obligations, and a winter season marked by historic snowfall — all factors that would typically place upward pressure on municipal spending.
Yet township officials say the proposed budget manages to hold the line.
During the announcement, Mayor Kuhn said the outcome was the result of a coordinated effort across all township departments. She credited municipal leaders and staff for identifying efficiencies and tightening spending without sacrificing service quality.
Township officials stressed that the approach was not about reducing essential services, but rather about eliminating unnecessary expenses and improving operational effectiveness.
According to the mayor, the 2026 budget delivers on her campaign commitment to reduce spending while enhancing services that directly impact residents’ daily lives.
Among the proposed improvements are more frequent bulk and recycling pickups, faster and more effective snow removal operations, continued investment in new parks and recreational spaces, and an expansion of the police department to what officials say will be its largest size in township history.
The combination of maintaining current tax levels while increasing services is being viewed as a significant achievement for the township, as such outcomes are rarely accomplished without noticeable trade-offs for residents.
The budget proposal now moves to the township council for review. Over the next 28 days, council members will examine the plan in detail and may recommend revisions, adjustments, or reallocations before any final approval is granted.
