The Department of Justice has released a newly obtained image showing suspect Cole Allen inside his hotel room just moments before the alleged attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

According to investigators, the photo referenced in a court filing depicts Allen wearing an ammunition bag, shoulder holster, and a knife. Additional images released by authorities also reportedly show the weapons he used in the attempted attack.

Authorities say the 31 year old from Torrance, California, was dressed in black pants, a black shirt, and a red tie at the time the image was taken inside his room at the Washington Hilton, where President Trump and hundreds of journalists gathered for Saturday night’s event.

Investigators allege Allen attempted to run past security barricades near the ballroom, prompting a rapid response from Secret Service agents assigned to protect the President. An exchange of gunfire followed, and Allen was taken into custody at the scene.

Federal prosecutors say the suspect demonstrated clear intent, citing evidence that prewritten emails titled “Apology and Explanation” were scheduled to be sent around 8:30 p.m., shortly before the incident unfolded.

“He intended to kill and fired his shotgun while trying to breach security and attack his target,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Jones wrote in a filing, adding that the defendant poses “an uncommonly serious danger to the community” if released pending trial.

An FBI affidavit further outlines what authorities describe as weeks of planning. Investigators say Allen reserved a room at the Washington Hilton on April 6, well ahead of the event, and later traveled cross country by train before checking in the day prior to the dinner.

Despite the allegations, Allen’s federal defender emphasized that he remains presumed innocent as the case proceeds.
