BARUCH HASHEM: Shloime Rand, Golders Green Terror Victim, Released From Hospital

Apr 30, 2026·3 min read

Shloime Rand, 34, one of two Jewish men stabbed in Wednesday’s terrorist attack in Golders Green, has been released from the hospital, a prominent askan with knowledge of the situation tells Belaaz.

Rand – who sustained a stab wound to the chest and was treated for a partially collapsed lung – was discharged after speaking from his hospital bed Thursday morning in a widely circulated BBC interview in which he described his survival as nothing short of miraculous.

“A very big miracle happened to me,” Rand told the BBC. “I feel like God has given me back my life. I am really happy that it was only these injuries, it wasn’t worse. I would have been even happier if nothing would have happened, but in this situation I’m very happy that I survived and I can talk.”

Recounting the attack, Rand said he had just left his local shul and was on his way to work when the assailant approached him on Highfield Avenue. “This fellow came towards me and just stabbed me in the chest,” he said. “I managed to jump back – so, thank G-d.” The quick reflexes, he said, likely saved his life, limiting the attack to a single stab wound.

The second victim, Moshe Shine, 76 – who was stabbed at a nearby bus stop on Golders Green Road minutes later – remained hospitalized Thursday in serious but stable condition, according to reports.

A 45-year-old man was detained by Shomrim volunteers, tasered, and arrested by police following the attack. The Metropolitan Police formally declared the incident a terrorist attack, and the Iran-linked group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia claimed responsibility.

In his BBC interview, Rand issued a pointed call for government action, saying that statements of condemnation from Downing Street are no longer sufficient. “Statements coming out from Downing Street that they will not tolerate any antisemitism is not enough,” he said. “The tone they talk about what’s going on has to be changed – and it has to be changed in a very different way to get the streets to be safe again.”

He described a community gripped by fear. “I have all friends and people telling me they’re scared to walk in the street – they look all around them, they don’t know what’s going on,” he said. “People are now afraid and it’s been taken to a new level. It’s terrible and it can no longer be ignored by the government.”

The Golders Green attack is the second declared terrorist attack on Britain’s Jewish community in seven months, following the Islamist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue in October in which two men were killed.
