The UN Plaza Grill, a prestigious kosher restaurant long favored by diplomats, organizational leaders, and communal figures for high-end political meetings and formal dinners, will no longer be certified kosher, a source at the Orthodox Union – which certified the restaurant, tells Belaaz.
The OU is expected to issue a formal alert shortly, the source said.
Reports indicate that the decision stems from financial difficulties facing the restaurant.
The loss of the certification marks the end of an
era for a venue that occupied a unique niche in New York’s kosher dining landscape.
Situated near the United Nations in Trump World Tower, UN Plaza Grill served for years as one of the rare upscale kosher options capable of hosting the kind of high-profile gatherings that Orthodox Jewish communal and organizational life increasingly demands — from meetings between Jewish advocacy groups and foreign diplomats to fundraising dinners for major institutions. For observant Jews navigating the world of high-level diplomacy and politics in New York, the restaurant provided a setting where kashrus could be guaranteed.
In a fitting farewell, Wednesday evening’s final kosher meal at the restaurant brought together Rep. Elise Stefanik, who addressed the Israel Justice Organization about her new book, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, and Jonathan Burkan. Photos from the evening were shared exclusively with Belaaz.
