‘Dead Zionist’ Graffiti Shocks NYC Subway Riders

May 3, 2026·2 min read

New York City commuters were treated to a hateful message scrawled in red paint in one of the city’s subways: “The only good Zionist is a dead one.”

The Jewish coalition Combat Antisemitism Movement posted about the incident on social media.

“We received a report through our Report It Now app of antisemitic graffiti in the NYC subway reading: ‘The only good Zionist is a dead one,'” the group wrote on X. “Those responsible must be found and investigated before words turn into action.”

The group says its Report It Now app allows users to “quickly and securely report antisemitic incidents in real time, turning individual reports into actionable steps to fight hate and protect Jewish communities worldwide.”

The New York City Police Department released data in January showing that 57 percent of hate crimes in 2025 targeted Jewish people, although they make up only 10 percent of the population.

“We continue to see that the vast majority of our hate crimes are antisemitic in nature,” said Jessica Tisch, the NYPD commissioner.

“In fact, in the first quarter of 2026, more than half of all confirmed hate crimes, or 55%, were antisemitic,” she said. “The hate crimes that we are seeing are really very across the board. It could be something — an act of violence. It could be drawing a symbol on a wall, for example a swastika.”

With the slogan “The only good Zionist is a dead Zionist” splashed across a subway station, it’s getting harder to argue that anti-Zionism isn’t antisemitism.
