IDF Strikes Beirut, Eliminates Commander of Hezbollah’s Elite Radwan Force

May 6, 2026·2 min read

In the first Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital in weeks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a targeted operation in Beirut, successfully eliminating the commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force.

The high-level operation marks a significant blow to the terror organization’s leadership structure. The Radwan Force, Hezbollah’s special operations unit, has been the primary driver behind the relentless cross-border attacks that have displaced tens of thousands of residents from northern Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the authorization of the strike in a joint statement, emphasizing Israel’s unwavering commitment to neutralizing threats and restoring security to the northern border.

Joint Statement from the Prime Minister and Defense Minister: “In accordance with the approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, the IDF has just struck in Beirut the commander of the Radwan Force in the Hezbollah terrorist organization in order to eliminate him.

“Radwan Force terrorists, led by him, were responsible for firing at Israeli communities and harming IDF soldiers.

“No terrorist has immunity — Israel’s long arm will reach every enemy and murderer.

“We promised to bring security to the residents of the north — this is how we act, and this is how we will continue to act.”
The targeted elimination reinforces the defense establishment’s stated objective of dismantling Hezbollah’s operational capabilities, specifically targeting the commanders responsible for the daily barrages on northern communities. The strike signals a firm continuation of Israel’s campaign to ensure the eventual safe return of evacuated residents to their homes.
