El Al Inaugurates World’s Largest Kosher Aviation Catering Facility

May 7, 2026·2 min read

El Al Airlines has inaugurated a state-of-the-art kosher aviation catering facility at Ben Gurion Airport, marking what the carrier is calling the largest and most advanced operation of its kind in the world.

The new plant, built by Tamam, El Al’s in-house catering subsidiary, spans approximately 14,000 square meters – nearly double the footprint of the previous facility – and represents an investment of hundreds of millions of shekels.

Production capacity has grown from roughly 30,000 meals per day to approximately 50,000, with advanced technological systems enabling precise process management, rigorous quality control, and elevated culinary standards.

The facility replaces a plant that had been in operation for decades. The transition to full operations is expected to take place gradually over the coming months.

El Al CEO Levi Halevy said the investment reflects the airline’s broader commitment to the passenger experience. “Every component of the customer journey is part of the overall experience,” he said. “The new Tamam facility allows us to raise the culinary standard for El Al passengers, expand our operational capabilities, and support El Al’s growth for years to come.”

Tamam CEO Oz Radomsky called the move “a significant leap forward,” saying the facility combines cutting-edge production technology with the expertise of the company’s longtime staff. “The plant will allow us to increase our volume, improve operational efficiency, and continue delivering a high-quality product to our customers,” he said.

Kenny Rozenberg, controlling shareholder of El Al, said the inauguration carries broader significance. “The dedication of the world’s largest kosher food facility is a meaningful moment for us as an Israeli company,” he said. “This investment reflects deep confidence in the company and its people, and strengthens our commitment to continued growth and development. The new plant will make it possible to provide the highest-quality kosher food to the international market as well.”

The expanded capacity is expected to support a wider variety of in-flight meal options across El Al routes, alongside improvements in product quality and overall service.
