Iranian state TV quoted as announcing Iran’s impending victory amid an intense exchange of fire between Iran and the U.S. Sunday, with the U.S. reiterating that it does “not seek escalation” with Iran.
“We will soon hold our victory celebration, and the sanctions and pressures that have been imposed on the Iranian nation over recent years will be lifted with the great victory of the Iranian nation,” Aref said.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump made light of the most recent U.S. proposal, which has been characterized as a one-page proposal.
“Well, it’s more than a one-page offer. It’s an offer that basically said they will not have nuclear weapons, they are going to hand us the nuclear dust and many other things that we want,” he told reporters.
When asked if Iran had agreed to the proposal, Trump said, “They have agreed. When they agree it doesn’t mean much because the next day they forgot they agreed.”
“And you know, we’re dealing with different sets of leaders,” he added.
Separately, Trump said that despite today’s clashes, the ceasefire is still holding, but he warned that the end of the ceasefire would be terrifyingly obvious, so Iran had better quickly agree to a deal.
“You won’t have to know if there’s no ceasefire,” he explained. “You’ll just have to look at one big glow coming out of Iran.”
In a phone interview with ABC’s Rachel Scott, the president characterized the day’s strikes as “just a love tap.”
