Trump Administration Unveils Trove of Newly Declassified UFO Records

May 10, 2026·2 min read

The Trump administration on Friday released a new batch of declassified government files related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAPs, marking what officials described as the beginning of a broader transparency initiative aimed at making previously classified material available to the public.

The release, announced by the Department of War, is part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, (commonly referred to as UFO’s) known as PURSUE, an interagency effort involving the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, NASA, the FBI, the Department of Energy and the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, or AARO.

Officials said the files, which includes videos, photographs and source documents, are now available through a centralized online portal and that additional materials will be released on a rolling basis.

The administration said President Donald Trump directed agencies to begin identifying and declassifying records related to UAPs “in the interest of total transparency.” Officials described the initiative as an unprecedented effort to provide public access to information that has historically remained classified or difficult to obtain.

“While past administrations sought to discredit or dissuade the American people, President Trump is focused on providing maximum transparency to the public, who can ultimately make up their own minds about the information contained in these files,” the Department of War said in a statement.

The department cautioned that although all released materials underwent security reviews before publication, many of the records have not yet been fully analyzed to determine explanations for reported anomalies.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the administration is committed to making more information public.

“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth said in a statement. “This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.”

Government interest in UAPs has intensified in recent years following several high-profile military encounters and congressional hearings examining unexplained aerial sightings reported by service members and intelligence officials.

Officials did not indicate how many files were included in Friday’s initial release, but said more documents are expected to be published in the coming months.
