Ocean County Participating In Statewide “Goal: Zero” Traffic Enforcement Initiative
Ocean County law enforcement agencies will participate in a statewide high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign this weekend aimed at combating the sharp rise in roadway fatalities across New Jersey, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
According to officials, 179 people have lost their lives on New Jersey roadways as of May 15, 2026, including 13 fatalities in Ocean County.
The county-wide “Goal: Zero” enforcement detail will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m., with participation from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and local law enforcement agencies throughout the county.
This month’s enforcement effort is being dedicated to the memory of Robert T. Tobias, a Manchester Township Police Department patrolman who was struck and killed in the line of duty on May 17, 1975, during a motor vehicle stop on Route 70. Patrolman Tobias was 23 years old and was the first local police officer from Manchester Township to be killed in the line of duty.
“The Goal: Zero campaign is about one simple idea—no family should have to get the call that a loved one isn’t coming home because of a preventable crash,” Prosecutor Billhimer said. “Through enforcement, education, and community partnership, we are working every day to make our roads safer for everyone in Ocean County.”
