Hero Falls: Staff Sgt. Michael Tyukin, 21, Killed in Hezbollah Drone Attack in Southern Lebanon

May 31, 2026·1 min read

The IDF announced the death of Staff Sergeant Michael Tyukin, 21, of Ashkelon, who was killed after a Hezbollah suicide drone struck Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon.

According to the military, the attack occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. when a drone launched by Hezbollah targeted the area where Tyukin’s unit was deployed. He was killed in the strike, becoming the 13th Israeli soldier to fall since the ceasefire in Lebanon took effect.

Tyukin’s death is the latest reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Hezbollah despite the ceasefire. In recent weeks, the terror group has increasingly relied on explosive drones to target Israeli troops along the northern border.

Military officials have warned that Hezbollah is attempting to exploit the rugged terrain of southern Lebanon and its proximity to Israeli communities to launch low flying drones that are difficult to detect and intercept. Some of the drones are reportedly equipped with fiber optic guidance systems, making them more resistant to electronic warfare measures and jamming technologies.

The IDF is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.

Staff Sergeant Michael Tyukin is survived by his family and loved ones in Ashkelon.

May his memory be a blessing.
