Motorists in Lakewood should expect overnight road closures and traffic detours beginning at 10 p.m. tonight due to separate roadway and utility projects.

The Township tells TLS a contractor working for the New Jersey Department of Transportation will close Central Avenue between Davis Street and Route 9 for repaving operations. The anticipated detour will direct traffic via Sunset Avenue and James Street.

In a separate project, New Jersey Natural Gas is scheduled to close Pine Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Route 9 for capital improvement work.

To help manage traffic flow during the closures, the Lakewood Police Department will have officers stationed at the traffic signals at Route 9 and James Street, as well as at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Pine Street, to assist motorists.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, follow posted detours, and use caution when traveling through the affected areas overnight.
