Rockland County Water Advisory Council Launches New Website, Expands Water Conservation Efforts

Jun 3, 2026·2 min read

Rockland County residents now have a new resource to help protect one of the county’s most important natural assets: its water supply.

The Rockland County Task Force on Water Resources Management has officially been renamed the Rockland County Water Advisory Council, reflecting recent updates to its enabling legislation and a renewed focus on long-term water resource planning and public engagement.

Alongside the name change, the Council has launched a new public website aimed at helping residents, businesses, educators, and municipalities better understand water conservation, local water resources, and practical ways to reduce water usage and protect the county’s water supply.

According to county officials, the updated legislation modernizes and clarifies the Council’s authority, membership, and responsibilities, ensuring it can continue serving as a stakeholder network focused on developing and implementing a sustainable long-term water supply plan for Rockland County.

“The Water Advisory Council, with a new name, expanded membership, and new website, will empower community leaders, industry partners and consumers alike to steward our water supply in the years and decades ahead,” said Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson, who chairs the Council.

The new website serves as a central hub for conservation tips, educational materials, webinar registration, and community outreach initiatives. The project was funded through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as part of ongoing efforts to increase public awareness about sustainable water use and long-term water resource protection.

As part of its educational programming, the Water Advisory Council will host a free public webinar on June 9 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. titled “The Rivers in Our Backyard: Hudson and Hackensack.” The webinar, held in recognition of National Rivers Month, will feature experts from Riverkeeper and Hackensack Riverkeeper discussing local water quality, conservation efforts, and community-based initiatives to protect regional waterways.

Residents can visit the Council’s new website to learn more, access educational resources, and register for upcoming programs and events.
