Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Eduardo Hernandez, 49, of Garnerville, has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison after being convicted of Kidnapping in the Second Degree for the abduction of a woman in the Village of Haverstraw in September 2025.

According to prosecutors, Hernandez attacked a woman outside a residence, restrained her, and threatened her with a screwdriver before the victim successfully fought him off and called for help. Witnesses provided investigators with information that led to Hernandez’s identification and arrest the following day in Stony Point after a brief foot pursuit.

The District Attorney’s Office noted that Hernandez has an extensive violent criminal history, including prior kidnapping convictions that resulted in nearly two decades of imprisonment. He had been released from state prison in 2022 before committing the latest offense.

District Attorney Walsh praised the victim’s courage and the coordinated efforts of the Haverstraw Police Department, Stony Point Police Department, and Rockland County Sheriff’s Office that led to Hernandez’s arrest and conviction.

“The danger that this man poses to the community cannot be understated,” Walsh said. “This sentence ensures the defendant will spend the next 14 years behind bars.”

The case was prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Gerard M. Damiani III and Senior Assistant District Attorney Kaitlin DeLuca of the Special Victims Unit.
