IBEW Local 503 Members Ratify New Five-Year Labor Agreement With Orange & Rockland Utilities
Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 503 have ratified a new five-year labor agreement with Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R), following a vote held Thursday evening.
According to O&R, the new contract includes updates to wages, medical coverage, and employee benefits. Company officials said the agreement reflects a collaborative effort to balance the needs of employees while maintaining the utility’s commitment to serving customers throughout the region.
“During negotiations, both sides wished to find common ground that would meet the needs of our employees but also allow us to meet our responsibilities to customers,” said O&R Director of Labor Relations Vany Vargas. “We believe that this contract extension achieves that goal.”
The previous labor agreement had been in effect since June 1, 2023. O&R employs 1,237 workers, including 589 union members represented by IBEW Local 503.
O&R, a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., provides electric service to approximately 300,000 customers across southeastern New York and northern New Jersey, as well as natural gas service to roughly 140,000 customers in New York.
