Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer Answers Your ‘Ask The Chief’ Questions: Traffic Laws
The following is an ‘Ask The Chief’ question submitted to TLS, and the Chief’s response. Email your questions for the Chief to [email protected].
Question:
Hi Chief Meyer. As far as I know it is illegal to make a fast left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic as soon as the traffic light turns green. Yet everyone seems to be doing it in this town. I can’t tell you how many times I have pulled out into an intersection when the light turns green only to be cut off by someone turning left in front of me. It happened 4 times today. Can your department do something about this? I have no doubt that this is the cause of many accidents.
Thank you.
The Chief’s response:
It is always better to be an alert courteous driver and take that extra moment to let a car make a safe turn in front of you as not to hold up an entire line of traffic that cannot proceed because that driver is waiting.
Again be safe, drive courteous and pay attention.
