Rav Yitzchak Yosef: Netanyahu Will Never Do Teshuvah, But Eisenkot Might

Jul 12, 2026·1 min read

Harav Yitzchak Yosef shlita, Shas leader and former Sefardi Chief Rabbi, launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his weekly shiur Motzoei Shabbos, declaring flatly that there is “no chance” the premier will ever return to a life of Torah observance.

Rabbi Yosef opened his remarks by lamenting the spiritual state of the country, saying Israel remains a secular state rather than a religious one, and that while some public figures have done teshuvah, others clearly never will.

He then singled out Netanyahu directly and asserting there was no possibility of him becoming observant. In a surprising twist, Rav Yosef suggested that National Unity chairman Gadi Eisenkot might be more likely to embrace a return to Torah observance.
