IDF Chief of Staff: Military Enhancing Readiness for Potential Multi-Front War Amid Iran Tensions

Feb 2, 2026·2 min read

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir declared that the IDF is in a “period of improving readiness for war” as tensions with Iran remain high, emphasizing the need to apply lessons from the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack and prepare for offensive operations across multiple fronts.

“We must continue to draw lessons from the events of October 7, strengthen the defensive posture, and be prepared for a sequence of offensive actions across all theaters of war,” Zamir said during a conference with senior officers, according to remarks provided by the IDF.

“The IDF is preparing for a number of possibilities, and we must remain alert and constantly ready for decisive victory in a multi-front war,” he added.

Zamir’s comments come amid ongoing regional volatility, including recent high-level discussions between Israeli and U.S. defense officials on potential responses to Iran. Zamir himself visited Washington over the weekend for meetings with senior American military leaders focused on Iran-related threats, according to reports from The Times of Israel and other sources.

The IDF has been implementing post-Oct. 7 reforms under Zamir, who assumed the role in March 2025, including a multi-year plan to bolster force readiness, integrate war lessons and address multi-arena threats.

“We are in a period of improving readiness for a campaign. The IDF is preparing for several scenarios, and we must remain constantly alert and ready to achieve decisive victory in a multi-front war. We must strengthen our capabilities, both defensive and offensive, in the face of the challenges before us.”
