IDF Chief of Staff: ‘Significant Achievements’ in Iran Campaign, But ‘Many More Days of Fighting’ Ahead
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Israel has achieved “significant achievements” in its ongoing military campaign against Iran, but stressed that “many more days of fighting lie ahead” as the operation enters its third day.
While approving battle plans with the military’s top brass Sunday evening, Zamir highlighted the early successes in what Israel has dubbed Operation Roaring Lion, a joint effort with United States that began less than 48 hours earlier.
“We are less than 48 hours into the campaign we are engaged in; many more days of fighting lie ahead. We will do everything and operate to the best of our abilities to accelerate the achievements, and we are sparing no effort,” Zamir said in a video statement released by the IDF.
He described the opening phase as launching “with a powerful surprise and with very significant achievements that have affected the development of the campaign and its results.”
“Already now we can say that the achievements we reached at the outset will influence our end-state,” Zamir added.
The chief of staff emphasized one of the primary goals: reducing threats to Israel’s home front.
“We are operating since the start of the campaign with great force, with one of our main objectives being the reduction of threats to the home front. Patience is now required,” he said.
Zamir also underscored close coordination with the U.S. military.
“We are operating in close cooperation with our ally, and coordination with the US military is tighter than ever,” he continued. “We are monitoring developments in additional arenas as well, and we will act forcefully against anyone who tries to challenge us.”
The comments come amid escalating exchanges, including Iranian missile retaliations targeting Israel and reports of Israeli strikes hitting hundreds of targets across Iran, following the joint U.S.-Israel operation that eliminated key Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The IDF has mobilized tens of thousands of reservists as part of the intensified campaign aimed at dismantling Iran’s military capabilities, which Israeli officials describe as an existential threat.
