Two Iranian drones hit the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, overnight, according to two American officials and preliminary assessments from the Saudi Ministry of Defense.

Because the attack occurred during late-night hours, the embassy had only minimal personnel on site, and no injuries have been reported. However, U.S. officials indicated that concerns remain about a continuing threat to the facility.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense said the impact caused “limited fire and minor damage to the building,” according to a spokesperson.

In response to the strike, the State Department released a security alert instructing American citizens in Saudi Arabia to shelter in place immediately.

The incident marks the second time in recent days that an Iranian drone strike has damaged a U.S. diplomatic mission, following a similar attack on the U.S. embassy in Kuwait on Monday.
