
TORONTO, Canada — Police are investigating after shots were fired at Temple Emanu-El in North York, Canada, late Monday, damaging the building but causing no injuries.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:50 p.m. near Bayview Avenue and Highway 401. Investigators found multiple bullet holes in the synagogue’s front windows and evidence of gunfire on the driveway. No suspects have been identified.
Mayor Olivia Chow called the attack “an unacceptable act of antisemitism” and said law enforcement would increase patrols to ensure the safety of the community.
Toronto’s hate crime unit is leading the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information or video footage to come forward.
A nearby synagogue, Kehillat Shaarei Torah, was confirmed to be unaffected by the incident, though it has been vandalized in previous years.
