IDF Chief of Staff Visits Air Defense Unit, Praises Troops Amid Operation ‘Roaring Lion’

Mar 3, 2026·3 min read

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israel’s Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, visited troops from the 947th Battalion of the Air Defense Array on Tuesday, commending their efforts in defending the home front during the ongoing Operation “Roaring Lion” against Iran and its proxies.

Zamir was accompanied by the Commander of Air Defense, Brig. Gen. K., and other senior officers during the visit.

In remarks to commanders and soldiers, Zamir highlighted the multi-front nature of the current campaign, which includes strikes in Iran and intensified operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“We are operating in parallel on two fronts,” Zamir said. “We are operating in Iran and against Hezbollah in Lebanon. These are two major adversaries of ours and they share many characteristics. This is one axis—the Shiite Axis, the Iranian axis and its proxies—and at this very moment we are working to neutralize threats to the residents of the State of Israel.”

He noted that Israeli fighter jets are conducting strikes over Tehran, targeting launchers and other assets to reduce incoming threats. “Some of the launchers that you are tasked with countering are now being engaged by UAVs and fighter jets to reduce the threats to our homefront,” he added.

Zamir accused Hezbollah of making a “very serious mistake” by joining the offensive. “We were prepared for this and we now are striking it with significant force,” he said. “We are determined to eliminate the threat Hezbollah poses and will not stop until the terror organization is disarmed.”

Praising the resilience of Israel’s civilian population, Zamir emphasized its role in enabling military operations. “Our civilian homefront is very strong. It is resilient, giving us support and breathing room,” he said. “The people of the country understand what we are fighting for, and in this sense, the resilience of the homefront is a central component of this operation.”

He tied that resilience directly to public confidence in the air defense forces. “Part of that resilience is confidence in you, knowing that we are doing everything—and that you are doing everything—to protect them,” Zamir told the troops.

The chief of staff expressed full trust in the unit and the broader IDF. “I have full trust in you, I am confident in the IDF’s ability to complete this mission, and I want to thank you for all your efforts and the exceptional work you are doing. Keep it up.”

Operation “Roaring Lion,” launched in late February 2026 as a joint effort with U.S. forces, targets the Iranian regime’s military infrastructure, including ballistic missile capabilities and command centers. The campaign has expanded to include significant strikes against Hezbollah following its involvement, with Israeli forces conducting operations in southern Lebanon and ongoing aerial campaigns.
