Ben Gurion Airport To Resume Operations On Thursday, El Al To Bring Israelis Back

Mar 3, 2026·2 min read

Israel will begin reopening Ben Gurion Airport on Thursday under a limited operating framework, Transportation Minister Miri Regev said Tuesday evening, outlining initial steps to gradually restore air travel.

Under the first phase of the plan, no outbound international flights will depart from Israel, but inbound service will resume at a rate of two landings per hour. The airport is expected to function around the clock. Aircraft arriving in Israel will depart from foreign destinations without passengers and land fully booked. At the outset, only Israeli carriers will be permitted to operate flights into Ben Gurion Airport.

Authorities stated that arriving passengers will move swiftly through the terminal. Upon landing, travelers will proceed directly to passport control, collect their luggage, and exit the airport as quickly as possible. Planes will remain on the ground only briefly before taking off again for overseas destinations.

Earlier in the day, the Transportation Ministry also unveiled a coordinated transportation system for Israelis returning through the Taba border crossing in Egypt. According to the announcement, buses will be provided for passengers landing at Taba Airport and crossing into Israel by land. The buses will be stationed outside the terminal on the Israeli side, synchronized with the scheduled arrival times of incoming flights.

After the conflict with Iran began, Israeli airlines initiated plans to repatriate citizens stranded abroad. On Monday, Hungary’s Wizz Air confirmed it would participate in the effort to return Israelis, joining Greece-based Bluebird in assisting with the airlift operations.
