IDF: Hamas Commander Killed in Israeli Navy Strike on Lebanese Refugee Camp

Mar 5, 2026·2 min read

TRIPOLI, LEBANON (VINnews) – The Israeli Defense Forces announced Thursday that a targeted strike by the Israeli Navy killed a Hamas commander in Lebanon’s Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp near the northern coastal city of Tripoli.

The operation eliminated Wasim Atallah Ali, described by the IDF as responsible for “training and exercises” in Hamas’s military wing in Lebanon.

“The terrorist worked to advance terror attacks aimed at harming the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF troops, and his activity posed a threat to Israel and its citizens,” the military said in a statement.

The strike occurred this morning in the Beddawi camp, a long-established Palestinian refugee site in northern Lebanon.

Reports from Lebanese sources indicate the attack hit an apartment, killing Ali and his wife, with at least one other person wounded. The IDF confirmed the operation but did not provide details on additional casualties.

The military also released footage of the strike on Ali, along with other recent Israeli Navy operations targeting Hezbollah weapon depots in southern Lebanon.

The incident marks an escalation in Israeli actions against Hamas elements operating in Lebanon, amid ongoing cross-border tensions and conflict involving Hezbollah.

Neither Hamas nor Lebanese authorities immediately commented on the IDF’s characterization of Ali’s role or the strike. Lebanese state media reported the deaths but did not confirm the target’s affiliation or responsibilities.

Beddawi camp, home to thousands of Palestinian refugees, has rarely been directly targeted in the current regional hostilities until recent incidents.
