NYC Mayor’s Wife Liked Social Media Posts Celebrating 2023 Hamas Attacks

Mar 6, 2026·2 min read

NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, liked several social media posts that celebrated Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, according to an investigation first reported by Jewish Insider.

The posts, shared on Instagram, praised the assault that left nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreign workers dead, thousands wounded, and included kidnappings and reported sexual assaults.

One post came from The Slow Factory, an organization that describes itself as a climate and social justice school, and featured images of attackers breaching Israel’s border and riding a captured Israeli military vehicle. Text on the images read, “Breaking the walls of apartheid and military occupation” and “Resisting apartheid since 1948.”

Duwaji, a Syrian-American artist who married Mamdani in early 2025, liked the post using her personal account. She has also posted political illustrations and criticisms of Israeli policy on the account, which Mamdani has interacted with publicly in the past.

The posts contrast with Mamdani’s public stance. During his mayoral campaign, he consistently condemned Hamas’ actions as “war crimes” while criticizing the Israeli military response.

Duwaji did not respond to requests for comment, and the mayor’s office declined to comment on her social media activity, reiterating that Mamdani has “condemned that violence unequivocally.”

Additional posts Duwaji liked were linked to the People’s Forum and affiliated organizations, including protests in Times Square on Oct. 8, 2023. The captions promoted slogans such as “from the river to the sea” and “Every colonized people, every occupied people has the right to self-defense,” and encouraged resistance against occupation.

Mamdani, then a state assemblymember, publicly criticized the rally at the time for downplaying Hamas’ attacks on civilians.
