Azerbaijan Foiled Iranian Attack On Synagogue, Israeli Embassy And Key Local Infrastructure
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Authorities in Azerbaijan announced that they had foiled a series of Iran-linked terror plots targeting key infrastructure and Jewish community sites. According to official sources, dangerous explosives were smuggled into the country as part of a planned attack.
Authorities say the materials were discovered during a counterintelligence investigation by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS). The SSS stated that it had prevented Iranian intelligence agents from carrying out attacks against four targets in the country.
The suspects allegedly planned to blow up the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, attack the Embassy of Israel in Baku, assassinate the leader of the Jewish community in the country, and carry out an attack at the Ashkenazi synagogue.
“A series of planned terrorist operations was organized by the Iranian intelligence service, which assigned local operatives to conduct surveillance, purchase weapons, and secure transportation,” the Azerbaijani intelligence service said in a statement.

Authorities said the explosives were smuggled into Azerbaijan by Iranian citizens working with local partners. Investigators discovered a container in the Sabail district of Baku that contained more than 7.7 kilograms of C-4 explosives.
Additional explosive devices were also found in the Garadagh district, including a remotely controlled bomb capable of causing damage within a radius of 250–300 meters, officials said.
Following the discovery of the plot, Azerbaijani authorities arrested several suspects. Four individuals were sentenced to six years and six months in prison for their involvement in the scheme. Other suspects remain in custody on charges including preparation for an attempted assassination and illegal possession of explosives and firearms.
In recent days, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have also announced the dismantling of cells linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which authorities say were planning attacks within their territories.
