IDF: ‘Isolated Failure’ Allowed 2 Hezbollah Missiles to Strike Central Israel Unintercepted
RAMLE (VINnews) — An “isolated failure” in Israel’s air defense and warning systems allowed two Hezbollah missiles to impact central Israel on Monday without interception or sounding of warning sirens, the Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday.
Hezbollah launched several missiles from Lebanon in the barrage, claiming responsibility for targeting the IDF Home Front Command headquarters in Ramle, known as Rehavam Base, and a “satellite communications station” in the Haela Valley near Beit Shemesh.
One missile struck Ramle, damaging a daycare center and lightly wounding 14 people, according to rescue services and Magen David Adom ambulance officials. Another hit an open area in the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council, causing infrastructure damage and lightly injuring two others, police reported. The remaining missiles were intercepted by Israeli air defenses, the IDF said.
The military acknowledged that interception attempts failed for the two projectiles, resulting in impacts without sirens activating in the affected areas. The IDF described the incident as an “isolated failure,” emphasizing that “this is not a new threat” and that the Israeli Air Force has successfully intercepted similar projectiles in the past.
The failure prompted a joint investigation by the Israeli Air Force, responsible for interceptions, and the Home Front Command, which oversees the early warning system.
“Following the investigation, adjustments were implemented to strengthen interception capabilities against similar threats in the northern arena,” the IDF stated.
