Baltimore Officer Wounded, Suspect Killed in Shootout Near Jewish Area

Mar 10, 2026·2 min read

BALTIMORE (VINnews) – Two police officers were shot Tuesday during an active shooter incident in northwest Baltimore, prompting lockdowns at nearby Jewish institutions, including a girls school, as authorities responded to the unfolding situation.

Police said officers were responding to a burglary call in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue when a gunman opened fire. One officer was shot in the leg and transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where officials said the officer was in stable condition.

According to Richard Worley, the commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, the suspect was shot and killed by another officer during the confrontation.

“It was relatively quick because he was firing on our officers,” Worley said.

Authorities said the situation involved a tense standoff in which a woman jumped out of a window to escape and another woman was briefly held at gunpoint before the suspect was fatally shot. Police said the man was related to people inside the home.

Nearby Jewish institutions, including the Bnos Yisroel school, went into lockdown as a precaution amid the large police response. Other community facilities in the area also temporarily restricted movement until authorities declared the scene secure.

School officials later notified parents that the lockdown had been lifted after police cleared the area, thanking responding officers for their swift response.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said the wounded officer was receiving medical care and expressed relief that the situation did not result in more serious injuries.

“We’re just so thankful that the officer or any other folks in that neighborhood were not severely harmed,” Scott said.

The name of the suspect and the officers involved had not been released as of Tuesday. The Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police said the officers involved were in good spirits following the incident.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
