ABC News: FBI Alert Warns Iran May Consider Drone Attack on California
WASHINGTON (VINnews) — Federal authorities have warned law enforcement agencies in California about a potential scenario in which Iran could attempt a drone attack against targets on the West Coast, according to a law enforcement bulletin reviewed by ABC News.
The alert, distributed to police agencies late last month, said intelligence indicated Iran had at least explored the possibility of launching unmanned aerial vehicles from a vessel positioned off the U.S. coast if the United States carried out military strikes against the country. Officials said the information did not identify a specific timeline, target or method for such an attack.
The warning surfaced as the administration of Donald Trump has been engaged in military action against Iran, which has responded with drone operations across parts of the Middle East.
Authorities have also been monitoring the growing use of drones by criminal groups in Mexico, raising concerns that similar technology could one day be used in attacks against U.S. law enforcement or military personnel near the southern border.
The FBI declined to comment publicly on the bulletin, ABC News reported, and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
