The attack occurred Sunday afternoon outside the Augustine restaurant in the Santana Row shopping district. The victims, identified as Lior Zeevi, 47, and Daniel Levy, 48, said they were attacked after speaking Hebrew, and that one of the assailants shouted an antisemitic slur during the assault.
Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing three suspects attacking the men. San Jose Police Department said the investigation remains active and is being reviewed as a possible hate crime, though no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday evening.
Several public officials condemned the attack and called for those responsible to be held accountable. Mahan described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and said the city will work to ensure accountability while supporting the Jewish community.
