WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A sport utility vehicle went out of control Tuesday afternoon and struck scaffolding along a busy Main Street intersection, authorities said.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. when the driver, an elderly man from Long Island, lost control while driving eastbound. The vehicle jumped a traffic island, crossed lanes, and collided with scaffolding near a restaurant.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. No pedestrians or bystanders were injured. Emergency crews secured the scene, and businesses in the area remained open.

Police said they are investigating the cause of the crash, including whether driver error or vehicle issues contributed to the accident.
