Macron Tweets In Hebrew, Calling For Talks To “Prevent Lebanon Descending Into Chaos’

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — French president Emanuel Macron tweeted in Hebrew on Saturday, calling on Israel and Hezbollah to “prevent Lebanon from descending into chaos.”

Macron  said that he had “held talks with President Aoun, Prime Minister Salam and Speaker of Parliament Berri.”  The French president demanded that Hezbollah “stop the deterioration” and Israel “refrain from a large-scale attack and stop the massive attacks, while hundreds of thousands of people have already fled the bombings.”

He stressed that “The Lebanese government has expressed its willingness to hold direct talks with Israel. All components of the state must be represented in these talks. Israel must accept this opportunity, open discussions and bring about a ceasefire, find a sustainable solution and allow the Lebanese authorities to fulfill their obligations for the sovereignty of Lebanon.”

Macron added that “France is ready to help hold these talks and host them in Paris.”

Most of the responses pondered why Macron felt the need to tweet in Hebrew and why he felt that his mediation could succeed when Lebanon had failed in the past to curb Hezbollah’s terrorist activities against Israel.

One responder summed up the issue succintly, stating that “President Macron is once again proving that he either doesn’t understand the Middle East or is simply refusing to see reality. To ask Israel to stop strikes against a terrorist organisation that has fired on us and harmed our civilians is like asking a fireman to stop spraying water while the house is burning.

“Instead of looking for a job as a mediator in Paris, the French President would do well to look at reality with his own eyes. Lebanon has become Iran’s missile base, and as long as Hezbollah is not disarmed, no discussion or summit conference will change the fact that this threat must be eliminated.

“Israel isn’t seeking approval from Paris to defend its sovereignty and the security of its citizens. It’s high time Europe stopped trying to impose arrangements that only buy temporary quiet and prepare the ground for the next, deadlier round.”

Another responder, Pro-Israel Dutch politician Geert Wilders, responded with one Hebrew word: Pachdan (coward).
