VP Vance Defends Trump’s Iran Operation, Dismisses Wedge Attempts
WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews) – Vice President JD Vance pushed back sharply Monday against suggestions of division within the administration over President Donald Trump’s military actions against Iran, insisting there is full alignment on preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In remarks that appeared to address mounting questions about his past criticisms of U.S. military engagements abroad, Vance accused reporters of trying to “drive a wedge” between him and the president.
“Look, I know what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to drive a WEDGE between members of the administration, between me and the President!” Vance said.
He reiterated long-standing agreement with Trump’s position on Iran, dating back to 2015.
“What the President said consistently, going back to 2015, and I agreed with him, is that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon,” Vance stated. “I think all of us, whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, should pray for success and pray for the safety of our troops. That’s the approach that I’ve taken. Make it as successful as possible.”
When pressed on whether his earlier skepticism toward “foreign adventurism” and his past criticism of the global war on terror created any hesitation about the current operation, Vance drew a sharp distinction.
“Well, I think one big difference is that we have a smart President, whereas in the past we’ve had dumb Presidents,” he replied. “And I trust President Trump to get the job done, to do a good job for the American people, and to make sure that the mistakes of the past aren’t repeated!”
Vance’s comments come amid escalating U.S.-Israel coordination against Iranian targets and amid ongoing Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah. The vice president’s defense highlights the administration’s unified messaging that the current campaign is narrowly focused on denying Iran nuclear capability and avoiding the open-ended commitments of prior Middle East conflicts.
