TORONTO — B’nai Brith, along with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, have called on the Toronto Police Service to investigate antisemitic signs displayed on Bathurst Street over the weekend.
The placards included a Star of David overrun with rats, a caricature of an Orthodox Jewish man accompanied by the words “Has Iran stopped?,” and an image of a Jewish man in a kippah pleading toward the United States as missiles fall nearby. The groups said the imagery echoes historical antisemitic tropes portraying Jews as conspiratorial actors responsible for global conflict.
Toronto Police posted on X that they take the matter seriously and have deferred the case to the Ministry of the Attorney General for further review. The organizations urged authorities to identify and charge those responsible under Canada’s hate-propaganda laws and to shut down demonstrations promoting antisemitic hatred as unlawful assemblies.
