Mark Levin is not only a well-known media personality and political commentator, but he has recently become part of the news itself as well.
In recent weeks, Levin has taken on commentator Tucker Carlson, whose rhetoric has increasingly become openly anti-Semitic, including the use of long-standing anti-Jewish tropes in his commentary. Carlson’s attacks have expanded into criticism of President Trump’s war against Iran, which he blames entirely on Israel. This stance has placed Carlson at odds not only with Trump but also with several leading figures within the MAGA movement who strongly support Israel and the administration’s policy toward Iran’s terror regime. Carlson’s arguments not only undercut the administration’s foreign policy but cross a line, intertwining political critique with prejudiced attacks on the Jewish community.
The dispute, however, has not remained limited to Carlson. Megyn Kelly has echoed many of Carlson’s sentiments with regard to Israel and the Middle East, amplifying what now appears to be a widening divide among prominent conservative media figures. These debates have highlighted growing tensions within the movement over both the US-Israeli alliance and the proper strategy for confronting Iran’s threats.
This ongoing war of words reached new heights on Sunday when Levin, a long-time supporter of President Trump and a vocal defender of the State of Israel, pushed back strongly with a biting post on X, expressing sharp disapproval of Kelly’s statements opposing the operation.
But what began as a dispute among media figures quickly escalated further when President Trump himself entered the conversation. Trump waded into the controversy on his own platform, Truth Social, forcefully championing Levin and defending him against critics. In doing so, he unexpectedly weighed in on the broader argument, backing Levin while implicitly rebuking Carlson and Kelly.
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Mark Levin, a truly Great American Patriot, is somewhat under siege by other people with far less Intellect, Capability, and Love for our Country. Mark is Tough, Strong, and Brilliant, hence the nickname “THE GREAT ONE,” conceived by our MAGA friend, the wonderful Sean Hannity, after years of dealing with Mark in Legal, Media, and other capacities. Mark would often do Sean’s show, speaking as a lawyer, and Sean realized then, as did others, that he was special. Mark Levin was not looking to do Television, Radio, or anything else, but he was drafted by very smart people who understood that there are few like him. He is a true Conservative, an Intellect far smarter than those who criticize him but, above all, he is a man of Great Wisdom and Common Sense who truly loves our Country. When you hear others unfairly attack Mark, remember that they are jealous and angry Human Beings, whose “sway” is much less than the Public understands, and will, now that they know where I stand, rapidly diminish. Other than for his wonderful wife and family, Mark Levin only cares and wants one thing, GREATNESS AND SUCCESS FOR AMERICA! Those that speak ill of Mark will quickly fall by the wayside, as do the people whose ideas, policies, and footings are not sound. THEY ARE NOT MAGA, I AM, and MAGA includes not allowing Iran, a Sick, Demented, and Violent Terrorist Regime, to have a Nuclear Weapon to blow up the United States of America, the Middle East and, ultimately, the rest of the World. MAGA is about stopping them cold, and that is exactly what we are doing. G-D BLESS OUR GREAT MILITARY, WHICH I HAVE REBUILT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MY FIRST TERM, TO ACHIEVE EVERLASTING PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD TRUMP.
Against the backdrop of this intensifying debate, I spoke with Levin to discuss it. He emphasized what is ultimately at stake for the United States, Israel and the broader strategic confrontation with Iran, and he explained why these right-wing commentators remain outside the mainstream of Republican thought, exerting little influence over President Trump’s decision making.
On Sunday, the president of the United States weighed in with a post on Truth Social on your give-and-take with Megyn Kelly. What did that feel like?
I was absolutely stunned and incredibly gratified. He’s a really wonderful man. What he’s doing with Iran and his efforts to fight anti-Semitism are unprecedented. I don’t think we’ve ever seen the likes of him before. My wife, Julie, and I were absolutely thrilled by what he had written. I hadn’t spoken to him in weeks.
Obviously, this was brought to his attention, although certainly not by me or anyone on my behalf. It’s an amazing thing to have the president of the United States step in the way he did.
I think the even bigger picture is that he’s had enough of the effort by this cabal to undermine MAGA, the conservative movement and the Republican Party, and now he’s publicly saying so. I think it’s pretty clear to any sober thinker that these individuals have their own agendas, and that their effort is to disunite us.
Did you have any warning that the president was going to mention you in such a laudatory fashion?
No. I had absolutely no knowledge or expectation. It was the furthest thing from my mind.
He said such wonderful things about you.
(Laughs.) I usually only get compliments from the family, and that’s about it.
What do you think the post accomplishes? Of course, it endorses you in a wonderful way, but do you think it tilts the argument in your or his favor?
I think it says what it says, and it clarifies that I’m an outspoken supporter of his as well as what he’s doing in Iran. So I think he’s saying, “These people are really attacking me as well as Mark, and they don’t know what they’re talking about.”
Do you think there’s any possibility that the president will lose control over his own MAGA movement?
The facts are indisputable. Over 90% of MAGA supports the president and his handling of this war against Iran, and zero percent of these woke-right neofascists do. Yet they claim to represent MAGA. They don’t represent MAGA. The president made that very clear in his statement. “I’m MAGA, and this is what we stand for.” We know what he stands for: peace through strength. He’s never been an isolationist. He also said that Iran is not going to get a nuclear weapon. So he’s been very consistent on what he’s campaigned on and what he’s doing.
He mentioned Sean Hannity as well. Do you think he’s trying to give you and Sean stronger voices than you’ve had until now?
No. I don’t think that’s something he was thinking about, certainly not the way I read it.
Do you find yourself more empowered and more responsible for voicing that support than you have until now?
I don’t think about being empowered. I try to do what I think is right. My positions haven’t changed for decades, not a single iota. You either have a view of the world that’s based on a belief system, value system and principles, or you don’t. I’m very blessed to have my platforms, and I don’t pull any punches.
You’re very admirable in sticking to your values, and I think everyone should emulate you in that. After all, you’re fighting the good fight.
You’re very kind. I don’t really know any other way to do it. It’s the way we roll here.
You used to focus heavily on the left, but now it seems like you’re equally passionate about addressing those in your own camp, the right wing of the Republican Party.
I look at it a little differently. I don’t think these people are still part of the “right wing” or the “Republican Party.” I’m a constitutional conservative, and they have never been part of what I believe.
That being said, yes, these people were previously aligned with the Republican Party, and now they seek to destroy it. Some of them previously sought to be aligned with the conservative movement or constitutional conservatism, but now they seek to destroy that too. They’re off in their own orbit at this point.
They are similar in their hatred of Israel, its prime minister, Jews and, quite frankly, the United States.
