JERUSALEM (VINnews) — An Israeli official confirmed on Wednesday morning that the Israeli Air Force carried out an overnight targeted assassination attempt against Iran’s Intelligence Minister, Esmail Khatib.
Israel’s security establishment is awaiting final verification of the strike’s results deep inside Iran, and currently assesses that Khatib was eliminated in the attack.
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces reported that the Air Force had completed a large-scale strike operation in Tehran, targeting IRGC headquarters, ballistic missile infrastructure, and additional regime assets, under the direction of the Intelligence Directorate.
Among the targets struck were the headquarters of a security unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a maintenance center for internal security forces, and another command center linked to the ballistic missile array. At the same time, air defense systems were also targeted as part of efforts to expand the Air Force’s aerial superiority over Iranian skies.
The IDF stated that the strikes are part of an ongoing effort to deepen the damage to the core systems of the Iranian regime and its operational capabilities.
