NYC First Lady Deletes Social Media Account After Past Posts Resurface

Mar 20, 2026·2 min read

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City’s first lady, Rama Duwaji, has deleted an old social media account after past posts drew renewed scrutiny, according to reports Thursday.

The account https://x.com/_RamaDee was taken down shortly after previously published material highlighted comments from her teenage years and early adulthood that were critical of Israel and the United States and expressed support for controversial figures tied to Palestinian causes.

The posts, some dating back more than a decade, were first reported by the Washington Free Beacon. Other content cited in the report included reposts and comments on a separate blogging platform.

Duwaji, who is married to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, has not publicly addressed the resurfaced posts. Her current social media accounts remain active.

City Hall did not respond to requests for comment.

Mamdani, speaking previously to reporters, defended his wife, describing her as a private individual who has not held a formal role in his administration or political campaigns. He added that, as mayor, he is responsible for addressing questions about his own views and policies.

The resurfaced posts have prompted criticism from some observers, while others noted the age of the material and the context in which it was written.
