Reese’s Pieces Reformulated to Pareve Status, OU to Update Kosher Symbol
HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA (VINnews)-Orthodox Union (OU) has issued an advisory announcing that Reese’s Pieces Peanut Butter Candy, produced by The Hershey Company, has been reformulated to pareve status, removing its previous dairy classification.
According to the OU Kashruth Advisory dated March 12, 2026, the updated product no longer includes milk in the ingredient panel or allergen statement. Consumers can identify the reformulated version by checking for the absence of milk in those sections.

The candy continues to bear the OU-D symbol for now, but the OU confirms it is “absolutely pareve, not even dairy equipment.” Future packaging will update the kosher certification mark from OU-D to plain OU to accurately reflect the pareve status.
This change follows an earlier reformulation by Hershey that removed milk from Reese’s Pieces, first noted in 2025, transitioning the candy to dairy-free while maintaining kosher certification under OU supervision.
- The advisory reminds observant consumers to verify product labels during this transition period, as older dairy-formulated packages may still be on shelves.
